What You Should Really Consider When Getting a PC

A laptop with a text on its screen

When getting a new PC, do not get too excited or engrossed on the Processor series of that PC, for instance Intel Core i5, intel Core i7 etc.

Most users will like to go for the processor series with highest number attached to the core as long as they can afford it, not knowing there are other significant details you need to look out for first.

We all know Intel's Core i7 or Core i9 processors are excellent for gaming and demanding tasks, while Core i5 or Core i3 processors are more budget-friendly for everyday use.
Intel core i7 microprocessor chips

An average computer user will always go for core i7 over core i5 without having to check for other specifics attached to corei7/core i5, other specifics such as the Generation of the processor and the clock speed.

The Generation of the processor plays a very important role in the selection of a PC.

How do we identify the generation of an Intel core from just it's name?

For instance, Intel Core i5 is not actually the complete name of the processor, there are other numbers attached to it, which you can see when you look it up on the information page of the processor in your PC.

You should see something like "Intel Core i5-11600K" or "Intel Core i5-8600K".
Intel core i5

The first digit or digits in the model number indicates the generation of that processor. Using the two core i5 above as example, the "11" represents the 11th Generation, while the "8" in the other core i5 represents the 8th generation.

The latter the generation, the better the processor. This means instead of going for a "Core i5-8700k" which is an 8th Gen Processor, you should go for a "Core i3-10600X" which is a 10th Gen Processor.

I hope you take this knowledge into consideration when getting your next PC.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 7 Reviews, Specifications, Features, Price and Unboxing Video

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 7 Reviews, Specifications, Features, Price and Unboxing Video

Xiaomi Mi Smart band 7 on the table close to it's pack

The seventh major model of Xiaomi's affordable fitness tracker series is the Xiaomi Mi Band 7. It was initially launched in China and officially became available on May 31.

Xiaomi later announced its plans for a global rollout, referring to the device as the Mi Smart Band 7 in international markets.

As usual, Xiaomi doesn’t just sell one Mi Band model in all countries but has different options for its home market and the rest of the world. Kicking off the offering is the standard version, priced at 249 Chinese yuan ($37). The NFC version follows at 299 yuan ($44). In Europe, the Mi Band 7 starts at €59.99 ($63). Those in the US can purchase one for $50.

The Mi Band 7 enhances several features found in the Mi Band 6. It boasts an enlarged battery, a larger screen, and an expanded range of sport tracking modes. Moreover, it introduces new functionalities tailored for dedicated fitness enthusiasts, including continuous SpO2 monitoring with alerts. Additionally, the Mi Band 7 comes in a variety of vibrant colors, such as Ivory, Orange, Green, Blue, Black, Pink, Fluorescence Green, Fluorescence Orange, Camouflage Green, and Camouflage Blue.

Mi Band 7 HARDWARE DESIGN

The Xiaomi Mi Band 7 uses a 1.62-inch AMOLED screen with a 490 x 192 resolution. Compared to the Mi Band 6’s 1.56-inch AMOLED with 486 x 152 resolution panel, that’s a noticeable size up. With this larger display, Xiaomi’s also improved the UI, bringing in new icons, animations, and a revised visual aesthetic that should make peeking at data easier.

With the larger screen comes a greater demand for power. To compensate, Xiaomi’s upped the battery capacity in the Mi Band 7 to 180mAh. That’s a 44% increase over the Mi Band 6. Of course, the larger capacity doesn’t immediately guarantee the Mi Band 7 will last longer between charges. As we experienced with its predecessor, smart features do a good job draining the battery. We expect continuous SpO2 tracking to be one of the main power hogs.

The Chinese Mi Band 7 model features NFC with Xiaomi’s voice assistant. It also supports contactless payments. It’s unclear if global models will also receive NFC or the return of Amazon Alexa to the wrist. This would be a welcome addition, though.

Health and Fitness Tracking features

In addition to its existing features, the Mi Band 7 introduces advanced capabilities such as monitoring training load, recovery duration, and training effect. These factors provide valuable context to understand the impact of exercise on the body, offering a more comprehensive assessment than just tracking calories burned. Furthermore, the Mi Band 7 incorporates VO2 max monitoring, which allows users to track their maximum oxygen intake during workouts.

Another noteworthy addition is continuous SpO2 monitoring, enabling users to monitor their blood oxygen saturation levels. In the event that this value drops below 90%, the Mi Band 7 will promptly alert the user.
Beyond these new features, all the basic fitness tracking smarts make a return. Heart rate monitoring, daily steps, distance, caloric burn, and sleep tracking are all included. Stress tracking and women’s health monitoring round out the offering.

"Even with a small price hike, the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 continues the brand’s legacy of delivering elite entry-level fitness trackers. It packs a bright, colorful display and offers plenty of basic features in spite of how cheap it is. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, (or the band, I guess), but it stays steady in the tools it does offer"

"The only really new feature compared to the predecessor is the larger screen in combination with the always-on display function, which could provide real added value for some users, but we still see a lot of room for improvement here,”

What is AAB file and How to Install it on Android Smartphone

What is AAB file and how to install it on Android smartphone

picture of Android smartphone with aab text written on it

Google is now doing away with APK files. As of August 2021, Google mandated developers to upload new Android apps to the Google Play Store in AAB format.

Since the launch of Android over a decade ago, APK files have been the universal format for apps. Whether developers or users, whether it is on the Google Play Store, APKMirror, APKPure or APKMod - it was always APKs that were offered. For developers, AABs will now become mandatory and for Android users, APKs will become a more complicated affair.

AABs has become mandatory for all new apps since August 2021. Updates for existing apps can still be uploaded by developers in APK format, so nothing will change in this department for now.

What is an AAB file actually?

"AAB" stands for Android App Bundle. The AAB file contains the entire program code of the Android app. As soon as app development is complete, the developer uploads the app to the Google Play Store in AAB format, with the user (you) downloading it from Google Play store to your smartphone just like before.

Why did Google introduce AAB over APK?

You may be wondering why Google introduced AAB file after many years of using APK, well here are some few reasons:

AAB files are custom-made
The difference between APK and AAB files lies in what we call resources. In an app, resources are everything else that is not programming code, such as images, language files, or music. If you select the "Install" button for an app in the Play Store, Google will then send you an APK file tailored from the AAB file for your device with the necessary resources required.
If your smartphone only has Full HD+ resolution, then you'll receive an APK without 4K material. You've selected English and German as the device language? You probably won't need the Swahili language pack. By the way, with the help of Google's bundletool tool, AAB files can also be locally converted into APKs.

AAB files are smaller in size than APK
The first major advantage of AAB files is therefore obvious: The APKs generated in this manner are smaller. On average, you should be able to see a 35 percent reduction in this manner, based on what Google wrote in October 2018.

Better protection for apps
Another benefit that developers will find useful would be increased security. It will probably be more difficult to modify apps in the future, and the mod scene might not be very happy about that. Who knows, maybe this will reduce the number of cheaters available.
By the way, with the AABs, the Lite and Pro app versions in the Play Store should no longer exist. It used to be possible to install a paid Pro version over the Lite version after a purchase thanks to the same signature, so to speak, as an update. With AABs and Google signing, that's no longer possible. Instead, developers will have to switch to in-app purchases.

How To Install AAB Files on Android smartphone?

Now that you've learnt about AAB files and it's advantages, let's dive into how you can install these AAB files if you get to have their raw files.

Normally, with the inception of AAB files, users will have to install apps and games through Google Play store only and not from any 3rd party Android app store. But if paradventure you get hold of an AAB raw file and you want to manually install it on your android smartphone, this next section is for you.

To install an AAB files, you will be needing an AAB installer; this is an app that helps in installing an AAB files into your android smartphone.

How does it work?
With the help of your data turned on, the AAB installer converts the AAB file into an APK files and then install it in your phone.

For this tutorial, we will be making use of an AAB installer app called "App Bundle Installer"

  • Step 1: Download and install App Bundle Installer from Google playstore.

  • Step 2: Launch the app and select AAB to pick an AAB file from your folder

  • Step 3: click on the AAB file in your folder that which to install.
The file will be uploaded automatically, converted to APK file, downloads back to the phone and then request to be installed.
Accept the installation request and the file [whatever it may be: App or game] will be installed to your phone.

That's all on how to install AAB files on your Android phones.
