Check Out 7 New Features Added to the Latest Whatsapp Update You Did Not Know About in 2023

Over the years, just like every other apps, WhatsApp has always been rolling out new updates to their apps.

 Why do they do this?

If you are having this question in your mind, the answers is that they roll out new updates to their app whenever they fix bugs or issues on the app or whenever they want to add new features or upgrade existing features to enhance user's experience on the app.

The latest WhatsApp update version 2.23.3.79 (updated in February 2023) comes with great new features that are very interesting.
Most of this new features are not really noticeable because of the fact that they are upgrades of already existing features on the app, while there are very few noticeable features that arrived on the WhatsApp app for the first time.

I'll be focusing on seven (7) of these features that are very important in your daily WhatsApp usage.

Join me to the end as I list out these features and how to access them.

FEATURES:

1. You can now add captions when sending documents.

In this updated version of WhatsApp, sending of documents with captions has been enabled. Previously, you could only add captions to photos and videos but now, you can also add captions to documents before sending them to your contacts or posting in groups. This Is new feature.

Previously, group subjects only had 30 character spaces for text and emoji when creating or updating a group, but now, it has been extended to 100 character spaces.

This is a great news for group owners that have or intend to use long group subjects.

3. You can now send up to 100 photos / videos at once.

Previously on WhatsApp, Aside GB WhatsApp and every other modded WhatsApp, you are only allowed to send or post 30 photos/image at once.
In this new WhatsApp update, this feature has been upgraded as you can now send upto 100 photos/videos at once. Wonderful, isn't it?

If you wish not to use any of your pictures as WhatsApp profile photo, there is an option on WhatsApp that allows you to create and use a personalised avatar of your choice.

6. Deleting selected Images/Photos select for status update by just touching them.

Previously, after selecting Images/photos you wish to upload on your WhatsApp status and you feel like removing some, you would have to go back and unselect them or alternatively tap on the particular image you don't want and them tap the delete icon at the top right of the screen.

In this latest WhatsApp update, a slight upgrade has been made as you can now delete unwanted selected photos/videos by just tapping on them at the preview panel and it will be removed immediately. See image below.

This feature is only available for WhatsApp Business users as at when this post was made. It might be made available for normal WhatsApp users in subsequent updates.

7. Polls.

This feature that has been on Telegram for long has now been added to WhatsApp.

WhatsApp poll allows you to send polls to contacts and groups of your choice. Once sent, others users will be allowed to vote on the polls you sent by selecting an option from the multiple options created by you.
As of now, multiple answers can't be selected by others users, unlike on Telegram where you can set whether to allow multiple answers or not.

We hope WhatsApp adds this option to Polls in subsequent updates.

If you aren't seeing any of these features in your WhatsApp application, kindly rush to Google play store (for Android users) or iOS App store (for iPhone users) and update your WhatsApp to the latest version so that you can start enjoying these awesome features on WhatsApp.

They are sometimes very short-lived, and are used by retailers to: improve sales on a particular product range, increase turnover at specific times, keep you interested in shopping with them.

This voucher is one of the things Jumia uses in keeping their customers coming.

You Can Now Download Your NIN Slip Using The New NIMC Mobile App

The federal government has released a mobile app and Identification Number (NIN) Slip for Public use.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), was represented at the launch by the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Engr. Aliyu Aziz explained that the NIMC App offers a secure avenue for Nigerians and Legal residents to verify and authenticate their identities using their smartphones on-the-go.

As an integral part of Nigeria’s digitization process spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, he said the App offers a built-in harmonization process that allows for its use across other government services including FIRS, FRSC, NHIS, NPF, and NCC among others.

According to a statement by the head of Corporate Communications, NIMC, Mr Kayode Adegoke, the new improved NIN slip is pocket friendly and simple to verify and can be accessed via a self-service Portal, where persons who already have been issued the NIN, can log in, pay a small token fee, download a PDF of the document in colour (if preferred) print and laminate as desired.

“The current NIN Slip will remain valid and gradually phased out.

“The NIMC App is available on the App Store for IOS users and Google Play store for Android users. The improved NIN Slip can also be downloaded via https://dashboard.nimc.gov.ng.”

How To Save Your iPhone Battery From Running Down Fast

How To Save Your iPhone Battery From Running Down Fast

How To Save Your iPhone Battery From Running Down Fast

We all know iPhone Battery doesn't last long but on this post, I'll be exposing you on some iPhone settings you need to turn off inorder to save your battery or prevent it from running down fast.

Iphone Settings To Turn Off

1. iPhone Analytics

Turning this off will improve your iPhone’s battery life and give you more privacy. iPhone Analytics sends data from your iPhone to Apple which drains your battery and could present a privacy issue about how you use your phones.
This feature is so that they can improve their stuff but that’s their job in my opinion. Although the data sent is de-identified this is an unnecessary feature if you are already having battery performance issues.
So how do we do it,
open the Settings App scroll down to Privacy, scroll down to Analytics turn-off share iPhone Analytics. This will also turn off data collection on your Apple watch great bonus and everything else in here too.
Go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics > Turn Off Share iPhone Analytics
iPhone settings

2. Cloud Analytics

Like iPhone Analytics, turning this off will improve your iPhone’s battery life and give you more privacy.

We just want to turn this off as we did for iPhone Analytics it’s just with iCloud on the same screen nice and easy.

Cloud Analytics

3. Significant Locations

Significant Locations tracks the places you visit most often and saves them onto your iPhone. Turning it off will improve your battery life and help you maintain your privacy.

Significant Locations means that your iPhone keeps track of everywhere you go by using your GPS. They can then deliver relevant advertising to you, which is supposed to make your experience better but I think it’s kind of creepy.

For instance it’s really weird when you’ve had it turned on for a long time and then you go to Significant Locations. It’s like here are the ten places you’ve been and I’m like wow I had no idea! It’s like a horror movie so let’s turn off Significant Locations go back to Privacy, tap Privacy in the upper left and scroll up to Location Services. Now scroll all the way to the bottom to System Services.

You know they don’t want you to turn it off when they bury it in like five layers.

Then scroll to Significant Locations, tap on that and turn it off, if I had left it on for a week it would have my home address, gym, work and any place I’ve been so turn it off and you’ll have the option to clear the history there in case you’re freaking out which is pretty cool.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations > Turn Off Significant Locations

iPhone location

4. System Services

Almost everything in System Services are unnecessary as they are constantly running in the background of your iPhone and draining its battery.

So let’s just tap back to Settings and we are going to turn off everything in here and this is my recommendation except for Emergency Calls & SOS, Find my iPhone and Share My Location if that’s a feature that you use.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services

iPhone system service

So let’s turn off:

· Compass Calibration

· Location-Based Alerts

· Setting Time Zone — Kind turn off only if you’re traveling a lot so if you do travel just turn it on and then it fixes the time zone. Turn it back off again once you arrive, you can tell that even with it on there is a purple arrow which means that it was tracking your location to find out what time zone you were in. Wasting your battery life so if you are not traveling through time zones it doesn’t need to be checking all the time.

· WiFi Calling — Turn it off if you already have good cellphone reception in your area. So I promise you that all these things are just going to save your iPhone battery life.

Here’s the thing all these things make it seem like if you turn them off then it’s going to stop working. Except it doesn’t stop working if you turn it off a lot of this stuff is just data for Apple. So if you think you can live without it just Turn it off.

5. Limit Ad Tracking

Limit Ad Tracking will prevent advertisers from collecting more detailed information about you.

Limited Ad Tracking is off by default so this is something we are going to Turn on in order to Turn it off. All right so let’s tap back to the main Location Services menu then back to Privacy and then scroll to the bottom and tap Advertising.

· Go to Settings > Privacy > Advertising > Turn On Limit Ad Tracking

So yes by turning it on it’s going to turn off the tracking to prevent advertisers from tracking you, as you use your iPhone when connected to the Internet.

You’d be amazed how well it works to help them target your location and run ads as you move around. Collecting more information about you so keep it on as it’s kind of creepy.

6. Fetch New Data

Fetch New Data — Changing your Settings from Push to Fetch will help you save battery life.

So let’s tap Privacy in the upper left hand corner to go back, tap Settings again and scroll down to Passwords & Accounts.

· Go to Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Tap Every 15 Minutes > Turn Off Push > Change Accounts you want to Fetch

iPhone settings

So with Fetch new data is set to every 15 minutes which is good with Push turned off. I recommend always turning off Push as your iPhone will always be connected to your Mail Servers and iCloud and will always be requesting mail every second, whereas Fetch means that your iPhone checks every 15 minutes or 30 minutes or however often you decide.

Whether there’s new mail so unless you’re in a situation where you need to know exactly this second when you got a new email you can save a lot of battery life, by turning off Push and changing your accounts to Fetch which you can do individually.

So Turn off Push and have Fetch enabled for your main Mail Accounts and then set up the Fetch settings at the bottom and choose every 15 minutes.

I should mention too that you can always open the Mail App and see if there’s a new email. So whenever you use the App it’s going to check as well, so most people won’t ever notice a difference except for improved battery life!

7. Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh for certain Apps — This will prevent Apps from constantly running in the background of your iPhone and draining its battery life.

· Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Turn Off Apps you don’t need to be continuously updating in the background

The last setting that you should turn off right away is Background App Refresh. So let’s head back to Accounts and back to Settings, scroll up to General and then scroll down to Background App Refresh perfect.

Background App Refresh allows certain Apps to download data in the background even when you’re not using them. So I recommend going through this list and turning off Background App Refresh for Apps that don’t need to download data when you’re not using them.

So for instance the Amazon App to update when you’re not using it is generally not required same with Hulu, Nomorobo, Podcasts, Reddit, Robinhood and SEFCU in the example above.

However there might be Apps you do need to be updating in the background like an app like News or ESPN, if you want the score right now so that might be understandable. So that is exactly why you should have it on in this case perfect.

Now if your battery is still Draining Fast and or Getting Hot the best way to check the changes you have made are working, is to go to Settings and then scroll down and tap the Battery Usage by App.

· Go to Settings > Battery > Tap Battery Usage by App

You should now see the Settings App start to drop below your highest power consuming Apps. From here you can then see what Apps are actually consuming up your battery life and need to be Turned-Off right away.

Other Ways You Can Use Your Old Smartphone Without Throwing It Away

Other Ways You Can Use Your Old Smartphone Without Throwing It Away

Two hands holding two Samsung phoe

When you buy a brand new smartphone, what do you actually do with the old one?
There are many things you can do with your old smartphone instead of throwing it away. Apart from giving it to someone if we don't want to sell it, here are great ideas you can try with your old smartphone without throwing it away.

1. Create an Untraceable Phone

As it is now, hackers can easily trace back all the data from your phone back to you. If you have an old smartphone, you can turn it into a "ghost phone" that will be completely untraceable.

A ghost phone has a lot of benefits. For example, it will keep your identity secure on online dating sites or if you're selling something online.

Here's how to do it:

  • Install one of the apps that provide a temporary phone number. Check Here for examples
  • Add a secure VPN service that encrypts all data going out of your phone. For example, CyberGhost and ExpressVPN.
  • Create a new Google or Apple account from the phone. Don't sign in with your existing account on the app stores. Similarly, create new accounts for any app you want to use.
  • Don't buy any app or service. Online transactions leave a money trail.
  • This is a handy gadget to have with you. Any time you want to take a data-sensitive online action, it'll keep you more secure than your everyday phone.

2. Turn Your phone Into a Security Camera

Instead of spending good money to buy a bunch of security cameras, why not just use old smartphones? They work brilliantly, and it's easy too.

Here's how to do this:

  • You can use popular apps such as Wardencam, if your old smartphone is an android device.
  • Download the app and sign in with your Gmail account.
  • Put your phone where you want it, and you can watch all the action on another phone or computer

3. Use It As A Universal Remote Control

This is one of the most popular ways to reuse an old smartphone. You'll be able to control almost anything in your smart home such as TV, decoder, AC, etc.

You need to check whether your Android phone has an infrared (IR) blaster. This will let it connect to TVs, air conditioners, and other devices that normally use a remote control. Most Xiaomi phones like Redmi comes with IR blaster. Sadly, no iPhones have an IR blaster in them.

If the phone has an IR blaster, just grab one of the best remote apps that we recommended. All Xiaomi Phones that comes with IR blaster, already have a system remote app installed, so there will be no need for 3rd party apps.

If the phone doesn't have an IR blaster, you'll need to add IR connectivity. You can do that by adding IR blaster to the phone with a third-party accessory.

4. Use It As A Portable Gaming Device

Playing game on Android Phone

If your old smartphone has a lot of internal memory, you can turn it into a portable gaming device for yourself your kids.

Instead of making use of your new phone for business and pleasure (gaming), your old smartphone can help you with the gaming part.
This is perhaps the simplest way to repurpose an old smartphone, and your kids will love you for it. Given the amazing games released on Android and iOS these days, it's also a cheaper option than buying a PlayStation Portable or Nintendo DS.

5. Turn It Into A Mobile Cinema

As long as your old smartphone has a screen large enough to watch movies and internal storage to contain lots of movies, you can turn it into a mobile cinema.

Most people don't like watching movies with their phone, they prefer watching it on TV or making use of their laptops. This helps them keep their phone storage free from filling up with movies and also they can watch movies without being interrupted by calls or messages.
You can put your main phone on airplane mode while watching movie with the old phone.
This is a very good way to reuse your old smartphone.

6. Leave It Permanently In Your Car

Smartphone on a phone holder in a car

A lot of people overlook the simplest use for an old smartphone. Grab a car phone holder, a double-port car charger, and fix your phone in place permanently.
You can use your old smartphone as GPS Navigator when driving to places you've never been before.

It means you don't need to waste your regular phone's battery or data on GPS and turn-by-turn directions.

Similarly, you don't even need to spend a ridiculous amount of money for an awesome car stereo with Bluetooth and internet radio. Just buy one of the best Bluetooth speakers and play music from your car phone.

Keeping hold of old devices and finding new uses for them is better for the environment than throwing them into the wastebin. Most smartphone companies advises not to throw away your device, they should be recycled instead.
If you can't find a new home for the phone, find a new use instead. The same goes for other technology gadgets you have around the house.
