How To Make Your Blog Appear on Google Search Engine

For those that are new in the blogging world, you might not really know how to make your blog appear on Google or how Google search really works. What you only know is that your blog needs to appear on Google search engine inorder to drive traffic to your blog.

Most new bloggers don't know that they can get their blogs on Google for free, all they need to do is just a simple task with a tool called Google Search Console (formerly Google webmaster)

Google Search Console is a free tool offered by Google which helps in making blogs or websites appear in Google search engine. This tool also helps you to improve the crawling rate of your blog (i.e allowing Google bots to visit your blog and source for information which will be sent to Google search results).

To begin this process, you need to do this few simple things.

First of all, you need to add your blog to Google search console and verify that you’re the owner of the blog.

Adding your blog to Search Console

To start things off, you’ll need to set up a free account with Google Search Console. Then you’ll need to verify that you actually own the site you’re going to analyze.

(Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to check up on your competitor’s sites with this tool. You must prove ownership to inspect a site.)

Start by clicking the “add property” button on the left-hand dropdown.

From there, just enter your site name. Remember that it’s a strict entry, meaning http: and https: are counted as different sites.

Next, you’ll need to verify that you own the site. Google provides a few different ways of doing this.

The recommended method is to add an HTML file to your server. But you can also add a meta tag, edit your DNS settings. But since we are focusing on blogger, you are advised connect to your Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager account to Google search console.

The second and most important task is to submit your blog/website sitemap to search console.

In the course of this post, I'll be guiding you through the step by step methods on how to submit blog sitemap to Google Search Console and make your blog appear on Google search engine result pages.

But, before we take off, you need to understand what actually a sitemap is, and why is it important for your blog to submit a sitemap.

What is a Sitemap?
A sitemap is actually a map of your website or blog. It is a list of pages of a web site within a domain.

When Google crawlers go around the web indexing new web pages in its database, new blogs are usually missed out as only a few or no sites are linking to them as well as they’re not aware of sitemap thing.

A sitemap is either an XML or HTML file that contains all the URLs of the pages inside your blog.

While HTML sitemap helps your visitors to navigate through your blog, an XML sitemap helps the search engine crawlers the same way.

When you submit an XML sitemap to Google Search Console, it helps search engine crawlers to find all the URLs on your website and add it to their database.

There are various parts of a sitemap that affect the crawling rate of your blog, such as the size of your sitemap, the number of URLs in your sitemap, indexing priority of pages on your blog, updating frequency, etc.

Now, that you know about sitemap and its importance, let’s move on to the further steps.
