How To Use Google Lens to Identify Objects

How To Use Google Lens to Identify Objects

Have you ever come across a plant, product, animal or landmark and wondered what it was? Instead of typing a description into a search engine, Google Lens allows you to use your phone's camera to identify objects in seconds.

Google Lens is a visual search tool developed by Google that can recognise objects, text, places and other items through images. It is available on most Android devices and can also be used on iPhones through the Google app.

What Is Google Lens?

Google Lens uses artificial intelligence and image recognition technology to analyse what your camera sees and provide relevant information.

For example, Google Lens can help you:

  • Identify plants and flowers.
  • Recognise animals and insects.
  • Find information about landmarks and buildings.
  • Search for products online.
  • Copy text from images.
  • Translate text into another language.

How To Access Google Lens on Android

Many Android phones come with Google Lens already installed.

To access it:

  1. Open the Google app.
  2. Tap the Google Lens icon in the search bar.
  3. Allow camera permissions if prompted.

On some Android devices, Google Lens can also be accessed directly through the Camera app.

How To Access Google Lens on iPhone

iPhone users can use Google Lens through the Google app.

Follow these steps:

  1. Download and open the Google app.
  2. Tap the Google Lens icon beside the search bar.
  3. Grant camera permissions when required.

You can then begin using the feature immediately.

How To Identify Objects Using Your Camera

To identify an object in front of you:

  1. Open Google Lens.
  2. Point your camera at the object.
  3. Make sure the object is clearly visible.
  4. Tap the shutter button.

Google Lens will analyse the image and display information that may help identify the object.

Depending on what you scan, you may see search results, product listings, articles or related images.

How To Identify Objects From Existing Photos

Google Lens can also analyse images that are already saved on your phone.

To do this:

  1. Open Google Lens.
  2. Tap the gallery icon.
  3. Select a photo from your device.
  4. Wait for Google Lens to scan the image.

This is useful if you took a photo earlier and want more information about what appears in the picture.

How To Copy Text From Images

Google Lens can extract text from signs, documents, screenshots and printed materials.

To copy text:

  1. Open Google Lens.
  2. Scan the image containing the text.
  3. Select the Text option.
  4. Highlight the text you want.
  5. Tap Copy.

The copied text can then be pasted into another app.

How To Translate Text Using Google Lens

If you come across text written in another language, Google Lens can translate it instantly.

To use this feature:

  1. Open Google Lens.
  2. Point your camera at the text.
  3. Select the Translate option.
  4. Wait for the translation to appear.

This can be useful when reading signs, menus, labels or documents in foreign languages.

Why Google Lens May Not Work Properly

If Google Lens is unable to identify an object correctly, consider the following:

  • Make sure the image is clear and well lit.
  • Move closer to the object if necessary.
  • Ensure your internet connection is active.
  • Update the Google app to the latest version.
  • Try taking another photo from a different angle.

Google Lens works best when the object is visible and the image quality is good.

Google Lens can save time when you need quick information about something around you. Whether you are identifying a plant, copying text from an image or looking up a product, the tool provides an easy way to search using your phone's camera instead of words.

Android 17: New Features You Should Know

Android 17: New Features You Should Know

Android continues to evolve with every major update, and Android 17 is expected to bring new improvements designed to make smartphones smarter, safer and easier to use. While previous Android versions focused on design changes and performance upgrades, the Android 17 update puts more attention on artificial intelligence, privacy, personalisation and a smoother user experience.

For Android users, the biggest changes may not always be the features you see immediately. Many improvements happen behind the scenes, helping apps work better, improving security and making everyday tasks easier.

Here are the Android 17 new features you should know.

Smarter AI Features Across Android

Artificial intelligence is becoming a bigger part of smartphone experiences, and Android 17 continues that trend.

The update is expected to bring deeper AI integration, helping users complete tasks faster and interact with their devices in more intelligent ways. AI features are becoming useful for writing, searching, organising information and improving productivity.

Instead of only responding to commands, future AI tools are designed to understand context and provide more useful suggestions based on what users are doing.

For everyday users, this could mean smarter recommendations, better assistance and a more personalised phone experience.

Improved Privacy and Security Controls

Privacy remains one of the biggest priorities in modern smartphones, and Android 17 focuses on giving users more control over their personal information.

The update is expected to introduce stronger security improvements, better permission management and more ways for users to understand how apps access their data.

With more apps requesting access to location, cameras, microphones and files, having clearer privacy controls can help users make better decisions about what information they share.

Better App Performance and Efficiency

Android 17 is also expected to improve how apps perform on different devices.

Software updates often include system-level improvements that help reduce unnecessary background activity, improve battery efficiency and make apps run more smoothly.

This means users may notice:

  • Faster app responses
  • Improved battery management
  • Smoother multitasking
  • Better overall system performance

These changes are especially important as smartphones become more powerful and users rely on more demanding apps.

More Advanced Multitasking Features

Multitasking has become an important part of smartphone usage, especially with larger displays, tablets and foldable devices.

Android 17 is expected to continue improving multitasking features by making it easier to switch between apps and manage multiple tasks.

Users who frequently reply to messages while browsing, watch videos while working or use split-screen features could benefit from a more flexible experience.

Improved Support for Foldable Phones and Tablets

As foldable phones and larger Android devices become more popular, Google is focusing more on optimising the Android experience for different screen sizes.

Android 17 is expected to bring improvements that allow apps to adapt better to larger displays.

This could provide:

  • Better layouts on tablets
  • Improved app compatibility
  • Smoother experiences on foldable devices

The goal is to make Android feel consistent regardless of the type of device being used.

More Customisation Options

One of Android’s biggest advantages has always been customisation, and Android 17 continues building on that strength.

Users can expect more options to personalise their devices, from appearance changes to improved control over how features work.

Customisation allows users to create a phone experience that matches their preferences rather than using the same layout and settings as everyone else.

Better Screen Recording and Content Creation Tools

With more people creating videos, tutorials and online content directly from their phones, Android is improving tools that support creators.

Android 17 is expected to offer better screen recording options and smoother controls for capturing content.

These improvements could make it easier to:

  • Record tutorials
  • Capture gameplay
  • Share demonstrations
  • Create social media content

Enhanced Connectivity Features

Android 17 is also expected to improve how devices connect with each other.

Better connectivity features can make sharing files, connecting accessories and switching between devices more convenient.

As people use more smart devices every day, seamless connections between phones, tablets, computers and other gadgets are becoming increasingly important.

Android 17 is shaping up to be an update focused on smarter features, stronger security and a better overall smartphone experience. While some changes may seem small individually, they work together to make Android devices more efficient and easier to use.

From AI improvements and privacy upgrades to better multitasking and customisation, Android 17 shows how smartphones are becoming more intelligent and connected.

For Android users, the update could bring meaningful improvements that change how they interact with their devices every day.
